Protectors in DDR City/DDR Global Protectors
Reiji "Rage" Itoh- is a street dancer with a horrible temper and Emi's boyfriend who debuts in Dance Dance Revolution 3rdMIX as well as the main protagonist in the fan anime series and movies since his debut replacing the previous protagonists, Afro and Dread-Snake. He is the leader of Team Burning and it's two organizations. He is described as a confident and brave person with a horrible temper in which he got his nickname. During his SMM in DDR X, he is also stubborn when other people doesn't buy his takoyaki in which he urges Emi to buy his takoyaki. In the fan anime series, he maintains his behavior in the games and in addition to his hotheadedness, he is extremely vigilant when he fights against his enemies including the main antagonist from season to season. He inherits his horrible temper and his cleverness from his grandfather, Garuda. He also likes Retsu as his best friend as well as Emi who he loves her dearly and it was his motivation to save her when she is in danger numerous times. In SuperNOVA and onwards, he continuing on as a local street dancer and as a popular takoyaki chef. In later series, he appears as a leading back up dancer for the famous artists. In DDR A, Rage is no longer a back-up dancer but returns as a street dancer who owns his takoyaki business.
In battle, Rage is fast and agile and fights using Resshuken (Lightning Kickboxing) combining with Various Martial Arts where he can easily knocks his opponent with a powerful knee and kicks especially when he countered his opponent and delivers another powerful kick and also using his punches as his finishing blows. He was taught by Garuda to fight since his childhood and mastering his own fighting style rather than the same ones that his grandfather have been used. He is also shown to be aggressive and has exhibition feats due to his performance as a street dancer and can outsmart his opponents when being outnumbered from his enemies. This demonstrates when he knocks Mameo's face with a powerful kick sending him falling into the acid goo in the final episode of 3rdMIX. In the final episode in DDRMAX when Garuda saves Disco from being shot by Schubert Reinrich, Rage angrily loses his temper and charges Schubert by unleashing two punches to the gut and brutally kicks him to the face and delivers a powerful punch knocking him intensively. He is also defensive when his opponent tries to attack him from behind and countering them with a powerful kick while being smoke bombed by Julio as seen when he fights him in SuperNOVA2.
In DDR X, he lacks his vigilantism due to his role as a popular takoyaki chef but retains the ability to fight when a brute terrorist terrorizing the amusement park at MAX Carnival during the pilot episode. He also managed to defeat the brute terrorist when he destroys his takoyaki stand. This results being trained by his grandfather vigorously in the similation battle practice. In DDR X2 through DDR2013, he can easily dispatch his opponents as well as defeating Dark Rinon during the finale of X3 as well as in the movie where he manages to defeat Gideon's robo gear in three blows when they rescue Emi from being abducted after the latter and Retsu managed to deactivate the power reactor from his space station. His fighting style resembles Yusuke Urameshi and Shinobu Sensui in the classic anime series, Yu Yu Hakusho where he mainly use kicks against his opponents and other martial arts like both punches and kick combos as his finishing blows.
Rage's running gag in the series is being attacked mainly by one woman as it demonstrates when Emi slaps his face after finding out that Ling/Cow-Ko flirts him in the restaurant which resulted in a nearly break partnership and relationship while in DDR X, she steps intensively to his foot after seeing other girls had a crush on him stating that he has a lot of fans due to his good looks. In DDR EXTREME, His cousin Kari hits him with her kunais resulting him being stuck in the wall stating that it was a throwing practice as well as in SuperNOVA2 where she throws him with same kunais after he annoys her for being overmatured, and finally when Rena is introduced in DDR X2, He was kicked to the right leg after being touchy to her.
Emi Toshiba- is Rage's girlfriend and character in the Dance Dance Revolution series who debuts in 3rdMIX, she is a whiz with machines but does not well on computers. She is described as a happy and cheerful young girl and was nervous to enter in parties. In the fan anime series she maintains her behavior in the games and she was seen hanging out with Yuni and Alice. She also admires Retsu for his computer prowess which makes Rage get jealous and both her and Retsu are the ones to calm Rage from his horrible temper.
In battle, she wields a baseball bat to smack her opponents intensively. Despite her size, she can hit them long enough to knock her opponents even when her allies can distract the enemy or being cornered as well as protecting her friend Yuni when Akira is busy fighting with Rage and Retsu. In DDR X2 and onwards, she was taught how to fight by Rena as seen during the movie in DDR2013 where she can knock her opponent down to defend herself from being taken away and later wields a stun rod to quickly knocks her opponent in an electric fashion. Her fighting style resembles both Shoma Sawamura and Momo Karuizawa in Project Justice.
Retsu Kageyama- is a former upperclassman student council's president and a genius hacker under the alias, "The Great Hacker" who later became a Japanese federal agent in the United States. and Rage's best friend who is a whiz with computers and gadgets and appears only in the fan made anime series and movies since his appearance in 3rdMIX. He is described as a cool and calculated man with a serious ego and a borderline sociopathic who speaks snobbishly to other people including Rage in which he enjoys using this behavior to tease him much to his annoyance with the exception of his SuperNOVA movie appearance where he joins to the enemy's side where the latter was unaware that he is an undercover CIA agent. He is also brave and confident like Rage and aids him to fight his opponents as well as can sense the enemy's prescence and can detect the enemy using his mini-computer. In SuperNOVA and SuperNOVA2, He works as a CIA agent and in DDR X and onwards he was promoted to become a U.S federal agent under the Intelligence Division and a constant customer to Rage's famous takoyaki. He is currently had a heated rivalry with Zero in a dance competition.
Retsu has two running gags in the fan anime series, The first one is his obsession in playing Tekken games and commonly became a big fan of the main protagonist and anti-hero of the Tekken series' Jin Kazama whenever he talks about the his appearance in the game's storyline as well as his movie appearance in Tekken: Blood Vengeance as mentioned in DDR2013 the movie where he plays Tekken Tag Tournament 2 arcade game with Julio and Rena are in his side. In DDR X, he actually imitates Jin's quotes from his win animation showing his obsession towards Rage and Julio and his other running gag was some women who shows their aggressiveness towards him when he wants to have a date with them.
In battle, Retsu is power and agile and fights using Traditional Karate based on Kyokushin. He can dispatch multiple opponents at once with either punches or kicks. He taught this fighting style as a corresponding course during his youth. In SuperNOVA and onwards he now wields a gun as he shoots his opponent in a greater distance which he was taught by Akira to shoot firearms before he became a CIA agent. His fighting style resembles Jin Kazama from the Tekken series where he borrows some of his fighting moves in his arsenal.
Kari Ryonagi- is Rage's maternal cousin and a professional knife thrower who appears midway in 3rdMIX. She is described as a serious and matured young girl with an outgoing nature. She also goes with Emi and Yuni when her cousin Rage has a mission to fight. In SuperNOVA, she actually became a famous circus performer and in DDR X3 she became a knife specialist instructor who teaches the students in throwing different kinds of knives or darts.
In battle, Kari is a professional knife thrower and she can throw different knives at the same time to her opponents. She has a high dexterity on throwing knives as she directly hits her opponents by knocking them on the wall and being unable to move. In 3rdMIX to 4thMIX, she uses normal knives in 5thMIX to DDRMAX2 she uses darts and in DDR EXTREME and onwards she uses kunai as her weapon. She is also good in unarmed combatant and commonly uses Krav Maga movements. Her fighting style resembles Megumi Oka/Jaime Robinson from the classic anime series, Voltes V where she is a kunoichi and mainly throws shurikens to her opponent and fights in ninjutsu with her father, General Oka/Robinson, Fuko Kirisawa from the anime Flame of Recca where she throw darts against her opponents in battle, and Suoh Takamura from the anime Clamp School where he mainly throws kunais against his opponents. This also shares this ability to the manga and anime, Naruto and Naruto Shippuden.
MC "Izam" Warner- is a determined street dancer and Ni-Na's fiance who is introduced in Dance Dance Revolution 4thMIX, he also had a heated rivalry with Rage whom he has a strong hatred with. He is described as a brash and quick tempered man with full of determination. He also has a strong hatred to Rage due to his horrible temper and fights him like cats and dogs with just small things. He is also prone to mock other people he comes across or encountering other dancers he's gonna compete. In the fan anime series, he maintains his behavior in the games and also admires Retsu for his snobbishness when he mocks Rage for his horrible temper and laughs the latter when he was scolded by his grandfather, Garuda or being humiliated by Retsu from his snobbishness. His last appearance was in Dance Dance Revolution: Party Collection where he decides to leave out of the country with his fiance Ni-Na after Retsu leaves in the U.S for his studies.
In battle, Izam wields an oak boomerang where he can throw his boomerang in a greater distance to his long range opponents commonly hitting them in the head. In DDRMAX, he has a frisbee disk as a back up weapon. His fighting style resembles Robin from the DC Comics.
Ryo "Akira" Kongoji also known from his full alias Solid Temple- is Yuni's Chinese bodyguard and the strongest in his unit as well as his partner to Yuni from Team Best as he was introduced in 4thMIX. He is described as a proud and strong person who protects Yuni in any conflicts. He also shows his problems with her when she sneaks away in the mansion/resthouse to go dance or to hangs out with her friends. In DDR X, he was mentioned by both Bonnie and Rage due to his role as Yuni's bodyguard where he follows Yuni whenever she sneaks away at her mansion to buy Rage's famous takoyaki. In the fan anime series, he maintains his behavior in the games He befriends Rage and Retsu after saving Yuni from being targeted by Kaiser's henchman. Since his debut, he becomes their prominent ally through the rest the series as well as being protective to Yuni when another danger is ahead of her. In DDR X, he reunites with both Rage and Retsu when Yuni was targeted by the terrorist organization called the "X-Pac". He aids both of them to save Yuni and later during the movie in DDR2013, he and Retsu are driving the space jet to rescue Emi at Gideon's Space Station. In DDR2014 and onwards, Akira currently aids Rage and the group against their enemies they are facing such as Dulton Tranza and l9LDark Rinon and her Replicants.
In battle, Akira is an unarmed combatant and fights using both Wushu and Judo in which one of his specialties is to knock his opponent by grappling them. He also wields a handgun as he shoots his opponents in a greater distance. In DDR X and onwards he maintains his ability to fight when Yuni is in danger as well as aiding both Rage and Retsu in fighting against the terrorist organization. He is also known to teach Retsu to shoot firearms before he became a CIA agent. His fighting style is a mixture between Fei Long of Street Fighter series and both Paul Phoenix and Feng Wei in the Tekken series. When shooting firearms, it resembles Claire Redfield and Ada Wong in the Resident Evil series.
Akira has two running gags in the series who has him showing his stage fright towards the crowded people who are watching him on stage after Yuni, Kari and Alice pushed him after winning the popularity contest. Despite his dislikes of crowds, he was seen happily laughs while keeping his dislike of crowds to himself and smiles towards them and his other running gag has him being extremely sensitive towards women when Ling tries to flirt him due to his looks and his height which makes him being sensitive to her. This also makes him being the moderator to both Rage and Retsu when they encounter other girls who charms them both.
Yuni Verse- is a rich girl who lives in the Verse Mansion at New York and one of Emi's friends in the series since her debut in 4thMIX. Hating to stay trapped in her mansion/resthouse, she frequently enjoys sneaking away to her bodyguard, Akira to go dance or to hang out with both Emi and Alice. In DDR X, she sneaks away at her mansion to buy Rage's famous takoyaki which forces Akira to follow her in her SMM which makes her angry to his actions from being followed. In the fan anime series she maintains her personality in the games and her reasons of joining in Rage's group was to make the thrill of the battle as she is the damsel in distress to the group. She also gained a crush towards Retsu in 4thMIX and onwards as the latter always makes her feel distress when he tells her to cooperate or listen to Akira for the time being even in DDR X when he secretly not to inform her from being targeted by the enemy. Both also shares their love of fashion. Like Retsu, Yuni is also specialize in hacking in which she assists Retsu to hack the enemy's computer systems. Her hacking style resembles Makubex in the anime Get Backers.
Scott G. Parke "Spike" McCullin- is a Scottish landlord and one of the club staffs in Club London which he appears in 5thMIX. He is described as a happy go lucky man with a laid back attitude. He is also loves to breed pigeons as one of his hobbies. In the fan anime series, he maintains his personality in the games and he works as a knover at day and a club staff at night. His last appearance was in Dance Dance Revolution: Party Collection where he was seen watching Robo2001 blasts off along with the rocket from NASA in space.
Robo2001- is one of the Konsento robot series and the successor to Robo2000 and Konsento 3/2. He is heavily based on the classic anime series, Mobile Suit Gundam. In the fan anime series, he maintains his appearance and personality until DDR EXTREME 2/STRIKE where he was created and modeled by Garuda (Rage's grandfather) who is fan of Gundam anime series. He is very loyal to his creator who calls him sir and also to Rage and Retsu throughout the season. His last appearance was DDR EXTREME 2/STRIKE where he was sent by Garuda to aid Rage and the group against the mafia organization. In the end of the series, he was sent back to the space station in NASA where he can aid Garuda's fellow space scientist coming from EMTI. In DDR SuperNOVA2, Garuda reveals to both Rage and Retsu about Robo2001 and it was currently displayed at the Smithsonian Museum.
Konsento Mark IV- is a character from Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix 4 and its the successor of Robo2001. In the fan anime series, like Robo2001, Konsento Mark IV is created by Garuda in DDR EXTREME 2/STRIKE! and both teams up with Robo2001 to take on the mafia group as well as their organization. In the end, Konsento Mark IV decides to assists his creator in EMTI.
August "Gus" Mills- is a character from Dance Dance Revolution series who debuts in DanceDanceRevolution SuperNOVA. He is a German DJ from his spare time and an economics college student as well as being acquainted to Retsu who became the CIA agent.
Like Spike, he is able to distract the enemy when he tunes up all the music with the use of the DJ booth as well as expert in any technical devices and being a demolition specialist as seen in the near end of DDR X along with Zero. In DDR2013, he was also shown to activate Garuda's most powerful invention.
Julio- is a character who debuts in DanceDanceRevolution SuperNOVA2 a wild young African-American hyperactive kid who is obsessed about the country in Japan which he extensively researched about it. He also wishes to become a ninja after extensively trained in Jiu-Jitsu. In later DDR games, he was seen wearing his favorite outfits from the famous artists.
In battle, Julio is trained in Ju-Jutsu which his dream to become a ninja and also can throw different ninja shurikens and kunais similar to Kari's and also can throw smoke bombs for escaping
His fighting style resembles Raven from the Tekken series and Dre Parker in the Karate Kid 2010 movie.
Zero- is a mysterious newbie in Disco Town who briefly interacts the female dancers but hates men like he is. He is described as a loner and introverted person who always being aloof and does not speak to others. He is also rude and arrogant when he does speak and hates being bothered by them. He is also an outrageous dancer than the others but is second closest to Afro in their dance moves.
In the fan anime series, he maintains his personality in the games and always butt in towards both Rage and Retsu and calls them as idiots. But he has a heated rivalry towards Retsu after beating him in a dance battle as well as being furious to him after he mocks his personality and his dislikes of men from his snobbishness. He is also the former medic officer from the X-Pac organization where he was a surgeon to put a bomb on their bodies by surgery and later rescue one of the victims knowing that he hates to see other innocent people's lives at danger. He later takes part against the organization along with Gus who hijacks their lethal demolition weapons in their armory room and using against them. Zero portrays as an anti-social newbie who likes silent nights and being known as the mystery man who briefly interacts other dancers. Later in both DDR X2 and X3, he continues to settle the score from his rival Retsu in a dance contest. However in DDR2014, he defeated Retsu and marks the end of their rivalry.
Rena Toshiba- is a character from DDR Hottest Party series who made her first appearance in DDR X2. In the fan anime series, she is a relative to Emi who also shares the same surname. She is described as a carefree and happy young girl but being short tempered similar to Rage in terms of personality. She also love cute things but hates natto. Aside from dancing, she also trains in martial arts as a another activity.
In the fan anime series, she maintains her personality in the games and is initially a brash person but things changed when she begins to have feelings towards Retsu as they shared their moment during their date. Their relationship still continues throughout the series.
In battle Rena fights using Aikido and Kobujutsu as she trains in martial arts and she also teach Emi to fight off her captors in the movie. Her fighting style is based on both Tekken's Jun and Asuka Kazama which some of their fighting moves are used to her arsenal.
Rinon- is character from DanceDanceRevolution X2 and an alien from another planet who awaited her master's orders to take down the Dark One which happens to be Dark Rinon. In DDR2014, she is playable character in Replica D-Ignition where she reveals herself as Dark Rinon as her own target when merging with six orbs.
In the fan anime series, she maintains her personality from the games and also gains a friendly bond towards Garuda who found her at the crash site in outskirts of Tokyo along with Rage and Retsu. Rinon also mistakes Garuda as her master due to similar resemblance. In DDR2014 TV series, she returns on Earth and she informs Garuda about gathering the six orbs. However, Garuda knows her deceptions and seeing her plan to get the six orbs by merging to herself to become Dark Rinon. She was later defeated by Rage which causes her to be malfunction and reverting back to her normal self. Garuda emotionally decides to repair her in her inactive state. In DDR A, Rinon returns as a permanent playable character and it reveals that Garuda has repaired her after being defeated by Rage.
